I bought a second hand copy of Traffic In Towns, the 1963 Buchanan Report to the Minister of Transport on the future of urban mobility and development. It’s fabulous sci-fi full of depictions of the future of British cities, except that it was never intended as sci-fi but as a deadly serious government report. Here are four posts on some of the fabulous 1960s depictions of future personal and public transport:
- Where’s my jetpack?
- Memo to Philip Hammond: Hoverboards project
- Tracked hovercrafts and straddling buses
- Where’s my self-driving car?
Thanks to WordPress.com for featuring one of them on the front page for a day, and getting me 4,000 spam comments.
